Using hypnosis we work with the mind to affect changes. Your mind/brian is what controls your body and everything that occurs within it - regulating everything from breathing or heart beat to blood pressure. - BELIEFS
Will power alone is not enough to change your behaviour - if it was nobody would have any problems. There's something deeper controlling what's happening - this is what we call the subconcious or unconcious part of our mind.
Hypnotherapy can drastically alter those deeper held behaviours because behind every behaviour is a belief or set of beliefs (belief system) that support them. Changing a belief causes the behaviour to alter and similarly vise versa in some cases. When you take on a new belief your mind alters whatever it takes to fit in with the new belief.
For a simple example someone who votes for Labour (behaviour) will have a belief that they are the best party or that they will do the best for the country. If they no longer believe that Labour is the better party then they would no longer vote for them.
A more practical example for a therapeutic situation is someone who smokes (behaviour). They would hold one or two or possibly a dozen beliefs that block them from getting rid of smoking. These could be as simple as 'it's going to be hard to give up' or 'i tried before so this time will be just as tough!'.
Finding & altering these beliefs to more positive ones would allow the smoker to give up this behaviour. Here at Southsea Hypnotherapy we use many 'belief change' techniques to help you change your mind forever.
